Beheading Nick Berg
Salon has posted the video of Nick Berg’s beheading. It has chosen to do what the NY Times and The Washington Post have refused to do. It’s an editorial call that Salon has a right to make, although in NY Times coverage Mr. Berg’s father, Michael Berg, is reported as saying of the video, "I didn’t want it to become public."
Salon warns readers that the video is "unspeakably gruesome," but as a matter of fact it is not "unspeakably" so—written press reports have been detailed and vivid, so much so that even the dullest imagination can figure forth stomach-churning images.
I did not watch the video, what would be the point of my doing so? For that matter what’s the point of Salon’s making it available?
What do you think?
