Gas-Free Wednesday
My in-box has been filled with forwarded messages urging me not to buy gasoline on May 19th. The theory is that this will cause oil refiners to "choke on their supplies," and cost them millions, or possibly billions, of dollars.
Well, okay, I’ll play. Like everyone else I’ll tank up on Tuesday or Thursday, but I suppose that some sort of message will be sent. I’m not sure what message, or what is the intended consequence.
Alternative Action
We’d all be better served, if conservation and reduced personal expense through reduced use is the goal, if we made a conscious effort to carpool, plan our driving more carefully, and employ well-know gasoline saving strategies: Avoid jack rabbit driving patterns, check tire pressures, keep cars in tune, etc. etc.
Two Dollar Gas?
You bet. As a matter of fact I’d like to see gas go to two-fifty a gallon, but I don’t want that extra fifty cents to go to the oil industry. I believe we should impose an extra fifty cent a gallon tax to help pay the cost of the disastrous Iraq fiasco. Hell, make it an extra buck and use the money to fund and develop better public transportation.
