Tucsonans may know about the magazine 110 Degrees. It’s the publishing project of Voices, which is devoted to training low income young people to tell their stories and the stories of their communities.
Kimi Eisele is the writing director for 110 Degrees. In the current Wiretap section of AlterNet.org she tells the story of one of her writers, Anthony Ramirez, and of her attempt to dissuade him from responding to the arguments of Army recruiters.
You can read Kimi’s article here. But first, read Anthony Ramirez’s story here.

If you’re out of the habit of looking at The Note each morning, or if you haven’t yet discovered it, let me recommend that you make it a habit. The Note is a product of ABC News and is staple reading for pols and their confederates inside the beltway. Outside the beltway it’s read by politics fans whose local papers are, well, local papers. It offers a nifty summary of links to top stories and a slightly off-center view of a working newsroom.
Read the note here. (link) And don’t forget Paul Krugman’s latest. Take the link from inside The Note, in case this one doesn’t work. (link)
