Taking It Easy
A lazy long weekend. We slept in this morning, hoping to make up a radical sleep deficit. I guess we have a long way to go because the deficit seems as big as ever. We had planned to get out of town and hide out in a hotel somewhere, just to avoid the temptation to do this or that little work task, or odds and ends of household chores.
So far we have avoided all such temptations. Walked over to our local coffee hangout and read the New York Times. I’ve just about given up on the Arizona Daily Star—Tucson’s premier daily. Everything I need to know about the locals I can see on line. Next step: Subscribe to the Times.
New Blog Link
You’ll notice I’ve posted a link to another Tucson blog, Rum, Romanism, and Rebellion. Ted Prezelski is one half of the distinguished, but indistinguishable, Ted and Tom team. Tom is a member of the Arizona House of Representatives. (D, Dist.29)
Information Please
I read a piece somewhere in the blogosphere about an encounter between Condi Rice and another shopper in Ferragamo’s. I lost the reference and couldn’t find it again for verification.
Then this morning, in the Washington Post, I caught a single line about Rice being "chased back to Washington by the bloggers." Does anyone have information on the story?
Flip Flops
The mention of high fashion footwear reminds me how much I dislike that ugliest of all designs, the Flip Flop. It may be that flip flops will forever be for me what you wear in a public, army, or college shower room to avoid athletes foot.
And then again it may be that I find feet just about the ugliest parts of the human body. You see a lot of feet here in Tucson because sandals and flip flops are a common strategy for men and women trying to stay cool in the desert heat.
I’m not sure why women, particularly older women, have taken to painting their toenails bright red. It doesn’t seem particularly sexy and it draws to eye to what years of high heels and pinch-toe shoes have rendered deformed and gnarly.
