YAWN
Feeling...not exhausted...not depleted...but like I've put in a lot of effort these last 9 days. Didn't do much today besides read the latest book dropped into my lap (well, purchased from the library sale), Yesterday I Cried, by Iyanla VanZant, her journey from the projects to spiritual guru, the hard way.
And I hung out at a park with other bloggers. I'm not sure how many want to remain anonymous, so I'll just say it was fun, and thanks.
Time to feed the cats and empty their box, two constants of life.

Last Words on Forgiveness
I've completed my novena on writing about forgiveness. For doing an extra day I probably get a free Coke and a guac at the best taco stand in heaven. Thanks to all who stopped by, who shared their stories with me in comments and email. It helps to remember that even when we have to make a journey alone, others have made it before us--or are making it along side of us.
Why do I do things like this, like Lent, Advent? Because whenever I show up for God, God shows up for me. Maybe a better way to say it is that I see Her better.
I hope somehow I got across these ideas:
- Forgiveness is a sacramental process: I do the footwork, God does the miracle.
- Forgiving is enlightened self-interest. To hold people hostage, you have to stand over them with your club of resentment. At worst it can make you ill. At least it's no fun (and neither are you.)
- Forgiving doesn't mean that the"everything's okay." It has nothing to with letting the perpetrator off the hook. It just releases your energy from the situation.
And if I didn't communicate them, I promise to stop trying.
Peace, Rose
Books on Forgiveness
It's not that we need something else to read. The first author, in fact, approaches bibliographies warily since she suspects we're overreaders. But each of these books has specific, practical suggestions for the human part of the equation.
Cameron, Julia. The Artist's Way. Not specifically about forgiveness, but a great companion for going through the dark night of the soul.
Huber, Cheri. There is Nothing Wrong with You. (and anything else she's written, all of which say, "Be kinder to yourself than you think you deserve.")
Myss, Caroline. Anatomy of the Spirit. Why People Don't Heal and How They Can.
van Zant, Iyanla. One Day My Soul Just Opened Up.
Williamson, Marianne. Return to Love.
Literature from any 12 step group.
