Things I Like
- Spam Gourmet, a free email alias service. You invent an email address to use, say, when you're shopping online. Or posting on website. You embed the number of emails you're willing to receive at that address. After that number is reached,Spam Gourmet pitches the rest, all that mail from Nigerian businessmen and Korean merchants who've scarfed up your address through bots or other means. You can reset the counter in the Advanced Options if you want to continue with that same address. Free. Yes. V. good.
- BBC News in Low Graphics! Remember when many websites had low graphics versions? The Beeb still does. Better news. Less crap.
- Satellite Radio This one's not free, but worth it, even in our penny-pinching household. I know there's all the coast-to-coast stuff, but what I like is the programming. Between us, my husband and I have 80 years experience with classical music. We have 10 times that many CDs. But XM Radio plays things we've never heard of! The classical station in Boston played Classical McNuggets, the Least-Likely-to-Offend-Greatest-Hits kind of stuff. We hated it. Hated the commercials. When did advertising become about annoying the hell out of you? I had a long list of products I'd never buy because I hated their ads. Anyway. No commercials. Good programming--on many stations, each with a different flavor. Go to their website and try a few. Yum!

Points for Honesty
Seen on a sign held by a curb beggar: "Why lie? I need a beer. God bless."
