TODAY'S TOP FIVE: A Steamroller of Truth crushing the Dixie Chicks CDs of Falsehood

Diane Sawyer = The Standard By Which All Other Journalists in the History of Human Civilization are Judged Speaking of the Dixie Chicks, here's a good wrap-up from Slate about that horrendous Diane Sawyer interview from last Thursday. If you thought questions like "Do you feel awful about criticizing the President of the United States?" and "Do you support Saddam Hussein?" were, shall we say, off-base, then you'll feel glad seeing somebody share your low opinion of La Sawyer. Also, if you go to Slate's front page, you can see Christopher Hitchens slip even further into the sewer, with a column in praise of convicted embezzler and imperialist puppet Ahmed Chalabi. Ah, how those Communists prostrate themselves before power!

40 Iraqi Civilians Killed in Blast; Crowd Turns on American Troops Wow, I can't believe I missed this story, from Saturday. I literally heard nothing about it until Monday morning. Either I suck or the American press sucks; let's call it a draw.

Haitian Refugees Are Actually Muslim Terrorists, Claims Ashcroft; Officials Baffled by Assertion This is a pickle of a dill, as Ned Flanders might say: The Attorney General rules that all Haitian asylum-seekers need to be detained because Pakistanis and Palestinians are sneaking into the country through Haiti. The U.S. consulate in Haiti and the Coast Guard both say they have no idea what he's talking about; the Coast Guard saying that they have never picked up Palestinians or Pakistanis en route from Haiti. Ashcroft's office refuses to clarify his comments to members of the press and Congress. I will point out again: This is a man who lost a state-wide election TO A DEAD MAN. If you were in his shoes, you'd probably be making all sorts of crazy-assed claims, too.

Iraqi Civilians Prepare Indictment of Gen. Franks for War Crimes Before International Court Hey, good luck with that, guys. If you haven't learned yet that this is not the regime to be battled through international legal channels, you'll learn it soon enough.

Scared of SARS, Man Stabs Sneezer to Death The correct reaction would have been to say, "Gesundheit!" Rather than, you know, murdering the person.
