Turban Warfare In The Streets Of Paris As part of the ongoing attack on liberty, equality and fraternity, France's Education Minister Luc Ferry told a National Assembly legal committee on Tuesday that beards and bandanas would fall under the proposed ban on "religious signs" in public schools. Said Ferry, "As soon as (the beard) becomes a religious sign and the code is apparent, it would fall under the law." (So I guess that secular beards are safe. How would you prove that? "No sir, my beard is not for obedience to the law of the Prophet, I just wear it to look cool..." Would a red, green and black beanie cap be all right if you're really a huge Bob Marley fan, but illegal if you're a Rastafarian?) Said Jasdev Singh Rai, a London-based Sikh rights activist, "There is almost an Orientalism here- the West defines who we are and we have to live by it." There is a lot more than definition at stake; Sikhs, Orthodox Jews and Muslims who refuse to give up the practice of their faith will be locked out of school, college and all the job opportunities that come with them. They are left with no choices other than homogenize or get marginalized. The most bizarre and insulting twist to this story is the claim from Paris that the law "will keep religion out of state schools and thus promote respect for all religions." I know I would feel respected if I wasn't allowed to graduate from college.

Thanks For The Memories, Saddam

You Asked For It, California The Governator is campaigning in California for Propositions #57 and 58, that would borrow $15 billion to cover the state's debt and add a balanced-budget amendment to the state's Constitution. If voters don't pass the propositions, the man who played a murderous robot from the future has warned of "Armageddon cuts" to the state's budget. Arnold's sidekick, State Controller Steve Westly went further and suggested that if Californians don't pass the props they could trigger a worldwide recession, "We've seen world recessions when relatively small countries like Argentina or Thailand have not managed their fiscal situation. March 2 is going to be the most important vote many of you cast in your lifetime."

You Can't Make This Stuff Up I guess it's necessary for the children of big-time preachers to be even more insane than their fathers. Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, was once deliciously quoted as saying, "(The God of Islam) is a different God, and I believe it to be a very evil and wicked religion." Ryan Dobson, son of "Focus on the Family" founder Dr. James Dobson, presents his book in the above link entitled "Be Intolerant Because Some Things Are Just Stupid," a call to arms for Christians to be more intolerant. Maybe they could go to France for training.
