Dick Jones' Patteran Pages
A patteran is a coded configuration of leaves, sticks and stones left at the roadside by Gypsies to communicate with each other. This is my digital version, left for any passers-by...

MEANWHILE, BACK IN THE REAL WORLD...

Do you guys have car boot (car trunk?) sales in the States? People selling stuff that they don't want any more to people who don't want it either but think that they're getting a bargain? I love them & I have a garage full of crap to prove it.

Today I came across a CD that has already become a treasured possession. It's by a 22-year-old singer who's come from nowhere called Jim Moray & the album is of well-known English folk songs. Tempting, eh, in a musical environment dominated by Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, bland R&B & mysoginistic hip hop?  But trust me - this is something very different. Checkout the website - www.jimmoray.co.uk - & then thank me...

THE BLAIR STITCH-UP PROJECT

For those of you anxious for news of how we're handling our side of the Great Post Iraq War Whitewash, here's the latest on the aftermath of the death of Dr David Kelly.

It was revealed today that Dr Kelly was the sole material source used by BBC correspondent Andrew Gilligan for the latter's claim that Blair's press secretary Alistair Campbell had doctored intelligence information in order to justify military action against Iraq.

On camera this afternoon both Campbell & Blair looked mightily relieved because now the pressure is on the BBC to explain why they refused to identify Dr Kelly earlier. The heavy implication is, of course, that, had they broken that most cherished of press protocols & revealed a news source David Kelly might be alive today. As a bruiser who can punch way above his weight,  Campbell will, no doubt, make heavy weather of this during the next few days. However, media pressure is likely to be brought to bear on the Ministry of Defence, which allegedly promised Kelly anonymity when he presented himself to them as the possible source of the BBC accusation.

Wherever blame may finally fall, this is an ugly business. It blows away the usual clouds of equivocation, half-truth & outright lies that obscure the backstage manoevurings that constitute real political activity in & around government. It exposes the shameless betrayal & human sacrifice that passes for pragmatism in the modern democracy. It is to be hoped that, when Andrew Gilligan's head has fallen into the basket (where will nestle too, no doubt, the heads of various line managers & maybe even senior BBC management), attention can then be returned to the real issue: Tony Blair's failure to justify retrospectively the invasion of Iraq in the absence of WMD.
