Dick Jones' Patteran Pages
A patteran is a coded configuration of leaves, sticks and stones left at the roadside by Gypsies to communicate with each other. This is my digital version, left for any passers-by...

CRABBED YOUTH & AGE

Whilst gouging a little space out of the north face of the rubbish heap in my outhouse, I came across a bag of old photos, some of them from the days of steam.  Having gazed upon, & marvelled at, a 1963 photo of His Loveliness Dr Omed a week or two back, & having noted too that, after lurking all this time in the shadows, images of both Dave Pollard & Natalie díArbeloff now grace their weblogs, Iíve decided to come clean too.

The first pic is of me at 16, all ears & teeth.  The full picture would show that Iím holding in my left hand a copy of Fred McDarrahís The Beat Scene.   The snap was taken in the summer &, moments before, I had been gazing again at a photograph of Allen Ginsberg wondering why I didnít look even very slightly as cool in a plaid shirt & mountain boots. The second is of me now, all grey beard & anxiety lines.  The full picture would show that, by abdominal muscle control alone, my stomach is just about in a plane with my chest.
