Dick Jones' Patteran Pages
A patteran is a coded configuration of leaves, sticks and stones left at the roadside by Gypsies to communicate with each other. This is my digital version, left for any passers-by...

MY FUNNY VALENTINE – Rogers & Hart

My funny valentine
Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable, unphotographable
Yet you're my favorite work of art

Is your figure less than greek
Is your mouth a little bit weak
When you open it to speak, are you smart

Don't, baby don't
Don't change you hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little valentine stay
Each day is valentine's
Each day is valentine's day

Stay little valentine stay, stay, stay
Each day is valentine's
Each day is valentine's day
Valentine's day.

(c) Rogers & Hart

In most respects a glorious song – effortless, seamless rhyming & one of the most beguiling of melodies (listen to Gerry Mulligan’s version with his pianoless quartet).  But dim though she might be, would she not slug this ardent lover with a baseball bat, lower her Junoesque bulk onto his recumbent form &, with that less than powerful set of jaws, bite him on the ass..?
