Dick Jones' Patteran Pages
A patteran is a coded configuration of leaves, sticks and stones left at the roadside by Gypsies to communicate with each other. This is my digital version, left for any passers-by...

Big blogging problems here at Patteran Pastures. Today I transferred the whole kit from pc to Mac. No problem - just a matter of installing the www/data/macro etc folders in the newly reinstalled RU folder. But Safari, the Mac browser, wouldn't recognise RU & I couldn't open the homepage. So I downloaded Internet Explorer 5 (the only Mac compatible version) & up popped the blog homepage. Brief & unconfined joy: now I could blog from anywhere the laptop & I choose to travel.

Then I noticed three things: there was no toolbar on the homepage, my Perfidious Albion post had disappeared, & the poem that I'd just pasted from Word unravelled itself in the box, all the verses losing their line lengths & converting into continuous prose. Subsequently, Karen M informed me that the Mac post had draped itself across the (to me invisible) Perfidious Albion post.

I've emailed Lawrence, but a guy with a similar problem who floated a plea on the RU self-helpline bulletin board told me that he's been trying to sort things out for 3 months without success.

So unless there's a nice easy fix for this one, I'm up & away, possibly to Blogger, but maybe just up & away. The problems I had when we moved house in August, transferring from NTL cable to BT ADSL, nearly had me throwing in the towel. I simply don't have the technical knowledge, much less the time or energy, to start all over again, transferring 3 years-worth of archives over to Blogger, working out how to activate the sidebar links & upstream pictures & just sorting out what happens in the Blogger engine room.

If anyone has any ideas as to how to sort this one out, please share your wisdom with me - in absolutely lay terms, of course.

And if this post is buried beneath its predecessor & is thus unreadable, I'll take it as a sign that it's time to sort out the garden or buy some golf clubs...
