I SHAN'T RE-ESTABLISH THE PATTERAN PAGES HERE. THIS IS A DEAD BLOG NOW. HOWEVER, I'M DELIGHTED TO BE BACK ON BOARD & WILL, FOR AS LONG AS MY CURRENT SUBSCRIPTION LASTS, FLAG UP NEW POSTS TO MY TYPEPAD BLOG (URL BELOW) VIA THIS ONE.

Events report that both posts have gone up. Now it remains to work out why both pc & laptop are denied Salon access. The only thing they have in common is an IP address. But why should an IP address cause the blocking of access?

Right. I've switched browsers from Safari to Firefox. I have the homepage back up, but, as is usual in Firefox, it takes ages to load & then when it does I have to click on the back arrow to activate the cursor. However, I do have the bonus of editing tools, which are absent from the Safari version of the homepage.

So - here goes with the tools. First, bold. Then italic. Then colour.

Next, I shall enter my typepad URL into the URLs to Ping box. (The text is now defaulting to bold each time.)

Here we go. (Not that I'll be able to see the results once they go outdoors...)

Still banned from Salon, although I have access, of course, to my homepage. No word from the Loserland fixers. They must be busy with remedial work elsewhere. Poor lambs - out in all weathers with nothing but a torch, some scotch tape & a ball of string. In the meantime, a facility that I have purchased lies fallow. Any danger of a refund, I wonder..? So - has this post upstreamed?

Right, I've had enough. I've spent virtually the whole of Sunday trying to sort this one out. Diagnosis, fix, next cockup. I finally worked out via Google & the helplinethat IE5 & RU are incompatible on Mac. (Could have located it in RU's instruction notes if I'd had the wit. It's this fundamental lack of digital common sense that makes me reluctant to start all over again elsewhere.) The high point this afternoon was downloading Firefox & seeing the toolbar displayed. Thought I'd cracked it, only to find a.) that the homepage box will only allow me to type into it some of the time, & b.) it won't allow me to paste pictures. Final pisser: I can't simply reverse the process & re-install on the pc because, having had to download from scratch as instructed, I'm using a trial version of RU. If I try to download it again, its robot at the other end will assume I'm trying to squeeze extra free deal from it & will block the submission.

Folks, it's been fun. More than fun; it's been enormously rewarding - creative stimulus plus regular interation with a circle of good friends. But there just aren't the hours in the day to get the pleasurable bit done plus all the labour that a non-techie like me would have to put in to learn the characteristics of new software. Many thanks for the suggestions, guys. If I had the basic technical know-how I might make the leap, but I don't.

This will be my final attempt to upstream out of a homepage in Firefox that's only working fitfully. Just as I thought I'd got it fixed. Sometimes it will take text, sometimes it won't. And nothing's upstreamed since early this morning. Sick & tired of this fannying around with RU, but deeply reluctant to start all over again with Blogger or TypePad.

Well, here we go. Might see you on the other side, then...

Well, I'm still here. Problem diagnosed: IE5 in Mac doesn't support rich text format & so the toolbar doesn't display. Partial solution: installation of Firefox as my secondary browser (because Safari doesn't support rtf either). Continuing problems: now I can't cut & paste from Word to home desktop; it just won't take. I format all my paragraphs in justify. Is there any way that I can html 'justify' into the works? If so, what's the code? If I can get that sorted, much against the greater part of better judgement & only pro tem, I'll stay with RU.
