Thoughts from Two Years Ago
I found a journal entry two years ago that reminded me once again that things have not changed with this administration. Hasn't it seemed like we have experienced one kind of crisis after another with this presidency? Anyway, I thought I'd print it the journal entry here in full. Tomorrow, I'll get back to writing about the continuing Plame investigation and the new, yet old, PR effort by the administration to get us to think positively of the Iraq war and the rebuilding phase.
Journal entry from 10 October 2001--
I'm becoming weary of this "campaign," especially on the "homefront." ("Homefront" sounds too much like a word from Farenheit 451, WE, The Handmaid's Tale, or 1984.) This morning, Rumsfield admitted that bin Laden may escape, even though the Taliban would be taken out. Does this admittance by the Pentagon mean that they are not going to pursue bin Laden as aggressively? What does this mean?
I'm quite perturbed this morning, to say the least. The news and commentary I've been viewing while working out at the gym is not appearing in the news, such as the postal workers in Topeka, Kansas undergoing testing for inhalation anthrax. This is a big news item but the main news coms are silent. It makes me wonder about what and who is monitoring the news they print and if they are withholding.
I viewed an extremely disconcerting news section that talked about the elaborate cave structures that they have in the Afghan mountains. Some of the caves used by the Taliban and bin Laden are said to be "three provinces long." Bombs cannot reach them from above.
Call me the writer of doom and gloom today but the prognosis on solving anything or progressing towards something looks slim. And then there is the state of the economy. Salon.com reports this morning that 504,000 people are out of work since the beginning of the year.
Though unlikely, I can't help but think that this whole mess was planned to reconstruct an America that is more god-fearing and submissive. I started writing my reasons down. I will have to get those on paper later.
