So what happened here?%$# I got up early to put a little piece up and not only did the dog eat it, but yesterday's as well. I'll follow the dog around a see what snippets of yesterdays blog I can find. Today's seems a goner. A far as comments. Saw the dog burying something out by the back fence. Damn dog.
Go Carl Go Slowly but surely the mostly democratic allegations that the Bush administration was and is up to an egregious yet well-planned betrayal of worldwide democracy is becoming more tangible now. This is really the first time specific allegations are being tabled by one Carl Levin top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Don't look for this is in your local papers.
A senior US senator says he has evidence* that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) deliberately withheld crucial information from the UN arms inspectors deployed to Iraq.
As well as to you and I don't ya' surmise. As you recall I first propagated the speculation that somehow the CIA would be implicated in some kind of scandalous cover-up several weeks ago. Not that I'm claiming any grand feat of clairvoyance. any idiot with a minimal dose of common sense could see this coming.
The script is being played precisely right up to and including:"
"Why did the CIA say that they had provided detailed information to the UN inspectors on all of the high and medium suspect sites with the UN, when they had not? Did the CIA act in this way in order not to undermine administration policy? Was there another explanation for this?" he asked.
I think Carl is on partly the right track but with a disturbing undertone. Everyone's starting the blame the CIA and that part, at least, is spot on my script. The disturbing part, in this case, is the phrase about "undermining administration policy...."
Aw, come on now. Use a bit of that aforementioned common sense Carl. I'm trying to undermine the administration. Not the CIA. Further, the CIA has about as much chance of undermining this administration as I do. The only problem I see with my script at this point had to do with a bit of a rethink on my part about the good 'ole intelligence boys. They're a lot like I'm am at my job - under considerable pressure (even legal) to keep my mouth shut. But that's what senate investigations are supposed to illuminate. Stay tuned. You don't want to miss this.
On other fronts. If you haven't yet visited Adrian's place lately, he's done a piece that compliments this post perfectly. When you've read it, ask yourself what criteria would be used to determine if a suddenly discovered cache of "smoking gun" should somehow be "discovered" in the future? Could you determine whether WMD was of Iraqi origin or a clever fake? It wouldn't surprise me to find WMD with the "Made in the USA" stamp on it. Wouldn't that be the final irony? * my emphasis added
