CURRENT MOON

Remember that abstrusely clandestine little Senate Sub-Committee Intelligence Investigation Thingy. Well? How did the specious proceedings turn out anyway? Any word? Anyone? Is a democratic apostasy inevitable? If you believe this guy, one, John Hall, not only "sweeping this under the rug" is not only inevitable but it's also politically advantageous. This guy, John Hall, is the Washington bureau chief of Media General News Service. Since everybody knows the media is controlled by liberals, one can assume he must be liberal as well.

While a congressional investigation into skewed Iraq intelligence is a rising summertime story, the Democrats may have more to lose than the Republicans with this issue.

The problem with this tactic is that, to prove it true, many Democrats who supported the war would have to admit that they, themselves, were misled.

Politicizing the Iraq intelligence inquiry on either end is not going to be a winning tactic for the Democrats. The DLC and moderates have been pleading with the party to keep their quarrels with Bush focused squarely on the domestic economy, not on foreign policy and military debates."

Stop right there! I've heard enough. Rather, I've heard all I can take.

I'd like to think that when rich is flat wrong about an issue, he'll be big enough to step up and say so. But that simply isn't the issue in this case. This case is not about being either right or wrong. This issue is about the truth or, rather, the lack of it. I have a hunch somewhere somehow someone is feeding one big fib and insultingly expecting neigh demanding that I obsequiously swallow it hook line and sinker.

I think it far too premature in the coming election to start throwing out the baby with the bath water - in this case eliminating a moral obligation in favor of jostling for future political position. Hell, aren't we supposed to be the good guys here?

My senators are Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye. I voted for both of them and so far I haven't had major problems with the jobs they're doing in Washington. (Both were acrimoniously opposed to the war from the beginning by the way). We need some bi-partisan oversight to these intelligence investigations hearings guys and we need them now. I fear nothing will be accomplished (one way or the other) without it.

My big clumsy feet

I have this rather un-masculine aversion to bugs. I used to get stung by bees when I was young. Hate bees. But centipedes are worse. This lil' fellar couldn't hurt a flea. Trouble is, in Hawaii, we grow large bugs i.e. centipedes - both the red and brown variety. That pretty much wraps up my entomological knowledge of these beasts.

Centipedes like this one can get to be ten inches long and pack a venomous punch. The big red ones are the "worst ones" but my evidence is mainly anecdotal because I've never actually met anyone that has been bitten by both the red and brown varieties. As some of you know from the Mayday pictures, I blog from a small and very overcrowded desk in the corner of our, ahem, study. (Taken down now). I was blithely doing my thing when I felt something creep across my bare foot. Looking down I was horrified to see an eight inch centipede traversing my foot. My literal "knee jerk" reaction to my predicament banged my knee and toe against the desk. It could have been worse, of course. I could have actually been bitten and then banged my toe. So now I'm yelping hysterically because of my banged toe - uttering all sorts of obscenities - and hopping around spasmodically trying to avoid any further contact with the terrible creature (Thank heavens I didn't catapult it up into my lap or I might have banged my head on the ceiling as well...) when I'm joined by the wife who is equally afraid of these sinister beasts. She wants to drive me to the emergency ward but I assure her I haven't been bitten. Wife screams - exit stage left. And that's why it all could have been worse. I could have been bitten and banged my toe. Thank God for small miracles on a Hawaiian monday evening. Can't imagine what the neighbors think.

The centipede is one of the very few venomous creatures found in Hawaii. So why do they always end up in my house?

Houston we have a problem.

My blog, which I begin over my lunch hour (that I'm required to take) seems to have gone and gotten itself lost somewhere in cyberspace and I simply don't have the where with all to start fresh. I believe it'll still be relevant tomorrow. I needed a day off anyway. May post something later....

Best regards - rich
