"I've got confidence in George Tenet, I've got confidence in the men and women who work at the CIA," Bush told reporters...."
"I have confidence in the fact those good 'ole boys at the CIA will tell me just about anything I want to hear." Bush didn't say, "And then will have the good sense to fall on their own swords to protect their almighty ruler in chief's one insignificant wee tiny boo boo."
All I can say is that the CIA together with all of their eight by ten glossy photographs with the circles and the arrows and the paragraph on the back of each one describing the scene is broken. And George Tenet stepping down isn't going the fix that or, more the point, excuse it.
Haven't you heard? There really were hundreds and hundreds of tons of WMD. What must have happened was that, once again under the ever vigilant eyes of the CIA, the Iraqis exported them. Hmmm. I picture myself the reigning dictator of Elbonia which has the most ruthless and powerful army on the face of the earth knocking on my front door. I think the first thing I'm going to be inclined to do is do away with every last bit of defense I possess.
Just how stupid does the CIA think I am anyway? Just how stupid does the CIA think the rest of the world is? I have another name for that the CIA calls intelligence - I call it hogwash. It'll take decades to even begin to regain credibility in this world. I think we can pretty much rule out confidence. I'd ask God to save us but apparently the fact that Bush listens to God was what got us in this mess to begin with.
