Suspicious husbands and wives who once might have hired a private eye to find out if their spouses were cheating are now using do-it-yourself technology to check on an increasingly popular hideaway for trysts -- the Internet.
Divorce lawyers and marriage counselors say Internet-abetted infidelity, romance originating in chat rooms and fueled by e-mails, is now one of the leading factors in marital breakdowns.
I swear I am constantly amazed by the inane assortment of reasons why some couples seemed to be intractably drawn into marriage with one another. Some seemingly no less inane but certainly more predictable and self-centered reasons invariably accompany the marriage's dissolution. One reason is that illustrated by our own Fiona of late - guest writing on Julie Grey's (henceforth referred to in e-mails as Fred) blog. I don't recall a time-line in that series (bit I may have just missed it.). Whether Fiona was an innovator or "just catching up" is beside the point. Go here for a review of today's article at CNN.com (since taken down).
My wife and I have been together now for about twenty-nine years. Neither she nor I have been "technically faithful" for that entire time. Neither do we collectively have any skeletons in the closets so to speak. Some memories, to be sure, but none incriminating. Adultery (read the sex), in my opinion, is hardly the greatest betrayal in a marriage visited by such. Just my opinion. Men are well known for justifying adultery with the words, "It was just sex. She doesn't mean anything to me." I agree with that statement in its basis though concomitant emotions are rarely that conclusive in nature as we all know (or should know!). There is undoubtedly a whole other potential blog here....
One thing is certain though. Should I ever find one of these things under the bumper of my truck (or should I say the Marine Guard ever finds one these things) you're in BIG trouble babe. I mean that.
