Academy Award picks/predics/etc
Responding to comment: "Ooooh! Would you also like to share with us what your picks and predictions are?"
Good question.
First I'd like to say that 2004 has been -- for me -- a lackluster year. In fact I've been kinda down on this new decade we've started, which is already half over. The 90s were great; the 70s were even better; the 50s were great; the 30s were great; the 40s were really good; the 60s were good; the 80s of course is the worst decade in film history.
This past year there were several movies that I liked, but I don't know if there were any that I really loved. Here's my top of the pops list. I don't know what I mean by top of the pops here. These movies are like *** or ***1/2 out of ****:
I Heart Huckabees
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Kill Bill Vol. 2
After You (Après vous)
Sideways
Before Sunset
The Aviator
The Bourne Supremacy
Anchorman
A Very Long Engagement
Spider-Man 2
Closer
Ocean's 12
Finding Neverland
Fahrenheit 9/11
Collateral
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Garden State
The Manchurian Candidate
Hero
Spartan
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
I haven't yet seen Million Dollar Baby, Ray, Vera Drake (which looks very boring), Hotel Rwanda (I love Don Cheadle), Being Julia, Maria Full of Grace, Kinsey, Super Size Me, The Phantom of the Opera (which I'm sure is shit), The Passion of the Christ (blahp), The Sea Inside, et al.
What I want to win Picture: don't really care.
What I think will win: The Aviator or Million Dollar Baby.
Who I want to win Director: don't really care.
Who I think will win: Martin Scorsese, or possibly Clint.
Who I want to win Actor: Don Cheadle.
Who I think will win: Jamie Foxx.
Who I want to win Actress: Kate Winslet I guess; not Swank.
Who I think will win: Bening or Swank I guess.
Who I want to win Supporting Actor: don't really care; they were all good.
Who I think will win: Morgan Freeman?
Who I want to win Supporting Actress: not sure.
Who I think will win: Blanchett or Madsen?
Who I want to win Writing (Adapted Screenplay): Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke and Kim Krizan, Before Sunset.
Who I think will win: Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, Sideways I guess.
Who I want to win Writing (Original Screenplay): Charlie Kaufman, Michel Gondry and Pierre Bismuth, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I guess.
Who I think will win: maybe them, or John Logan for The Aviator, or Mike Leigh for Vera Drake.
