Bigger Than Life
Check me out, dawg. So, yesterday I sent the Castro an email, which went a little somethin' like this, uh, kick it:
Hi Castro,
The Coming Soon section has something about Broadway: The Golden Age, then says Our Winter 2004/2005 calendar is now online! Click here to view our listing. But then it just takes you to the regular calendar which goes through the next two weeks. What's coming after that? Know anything yet? Thanks, Ted.
If you need any help programming, how about Nicholas Ray's rarely screened Bigger Than Life starring James Mason and Walter Matthau? How about a Lee Marvin Festival?
Thanks,
Ted

Then the Castro responded today with:
Ted,
The winter 2004/2005 calendar is shorter than usual, it ends Feb. 17th, so it is online at www.castrotheatresf.com.
The winter/spring calendar (feb. 18-May 31) will be released next Friday (Feb. 11) in print for pickup and will be online by FEb. 18th.
Good news for you regarding your suggestions:
"Bigger Than Life" (brand new print!) is playing April 3-7.
no Lee Marvin but we are showing the brand new reconstruction of the Director's cut of "Major Dundee" (Peckinpah) May 24-31.
thanks

To which I responded with:
wow! i don't believe it. i saw bigger than life many years ago on cinemax. it's never released been on dvd or vhs. leave it to beaver's jerry mathers has a small role. it's a hot movie. can't wait.
the dundee re-tool sounds good, but peckinpah's best is pat garrett and billy the kid (the restored director's cut vers.). ask local film writer/hero, david thomson.
and keep lee marvin in mind for the future.... ;-)
* the employment of the winking smiley face there is supposed to indicate that while i do want more lee marvin, i don't want to come off as some kind of bossy or dictatorial nut, in regards my suggestions...
anyway, thanks for getting back to me, and for the good news,
ted
