Recently I was contacted by a magazine covering the circuit-party scene and I agreed to do some work for them, so last night I went to interview a friend of mine who is also a popular DJ. It was his last night at Timberline, a venerable Seattle institution that I like for it's exposed wood beams and bouncy wooden dancefloor.
I sat with Brian and asked him a myriad of questions about the scene, how he got into DJing, what he wants to do with it etc... Then I spent an hour in the DJ booth with him, watching him mix and seeing him pick different selections. Brian and I are friends and he knows I'm much more of a trance/hard house kinda homo, I really am not a fan of that type of frou-frou circuit music. But it was so enjoyable watching him bounce on the soles of his feet as the boom-boom of the music echoed through T-Line's cavernous space. Looking down at the boys on the floor with their hands in the air brought back to me my own times when the dancefloor was my ultimate refuge. Those times when I looked forward to the weekend with such a passion, my friends and I always together, arms around each other as the last beats faded into the warm summer nights...
