The Democratic Debate

                                                  Dems renew Bush criticism

The debate was good and I thought Al Sharpton, as always, did the best job.

Funny that Joe Lieberman said "Welcome to the Democratic presidential debate General Clark", because it truly was trial by fire for Clark and he did a fine job. I wish someone would bring up the fact that many Americans had mixed feelings about the war in Iraq before it occured, to listen and be able to change your mind is to me an asset, not a liability.

Which brings us to the next point that Lieberman and Kerry kept dragging out, the issue of Clark's political loyalties. Clark was right to say he was non-partisan while in the military, I'd expect that much from any senior officer. If Clark were at one time a Republican he's a Democrat now, pledging loyalty to all the major issues in the party's platform. Yet again that doesn't seem to be enough for those self-appointed guardians of Democratic party membership.

Listen, we all change our minds, at least those of us who have 1/2 a brain do. It's puzzling that to be open to new ways of thinking and ideas is now somehow perceived as an incredible weakness.

John Kerry trumpets the fact that he's voted for Democrats for 36 years! Well I'd like for Kerry to answer how he voted in the 1990 Massachusets gubernatorial race when conservative anti-gay and anti-abortion Democrat John Silber was running against pro-choice, pro-gay rights Republican William Weld. Did he follow party loyalty then and vote for a candidate who's values were inimical to the Democratic party or did he vote for the Republican who's values more closely matched his own? I can tell you if I'd been in MA then I'd sure as hell have voted for William Weld. Kerry should answer this question becaue if he did vote for Silber it shows how he put the interests of the party above his ideals, and that to me is a bad, bad thing.

Clark is a good speaker and forcefully defended himself, I thought he did well. Now we wait for the next debate to see if the increasingly desperate feeding frenzy between Dean, Lieberman, Kerry and Edwards consumes them all or if they turn their attentions to explaining why they would be the best candidate for President and not why Clark would not. As of now none of them have clearly explained that answer.

Thinkin' Lincoln

I received a strange e-mail in my box today from my good friend Lincoln Pirkle.

Lincoln and I were great buddies back in those heady days of 1999-2001, the flush, rich dot-com days in Seattle. Lincoln was a party-boy extraordinaire with a wonderful smile and a great heart. We partied all over the world together, from London, where I was fortunate enough to stay in he and his friend's fantastic penthouse on Covent Garden, to Vancouver BC where Lincoln, always traveling in-style, arrived on a 70-foot yacht with his new British boyfriend Gavin. Lincoln was a good guy and an A-lister that always welcomed all.

So I receive an e-mail from Lincoln, who last I heard was working for Kenneth Cole in NYC, that said "Even though I didn't write this I love each and everyone of you with all my heart." I wonder what it could mean?

Lincoln, if you're out there I miss and love you and could use your advice on trans-Atlantic relationships right now. Maybe sometime I'll see you and Gavin again, this time in Heaven.

Bang Bang

Ehrlich, right, believes Britney Spears can have a negative influence on teenagers.

                                                                             Kendal's Got a Gun!

I think the Maryland Republican governor's wife's comments are hilarious. Finally Republicans are speaking the truth! In addition to Britney Spears I'm sure there are more than a few other people they'd like to murder with their 2nd Amendment-approved handguns. Bravo to Kendal Ehrlich for speaking the truth for her party!

Playing Catch Up

President Bush marked six months since the collapse of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's government by defending the U.S.-led invasion.

Is it only me or does the White House's latest campaign to convinve Americans of the worth of the campaign in Iraq reek of desperation?

It's a sad fact indeed that the administration has lost control of the argument over going to war and has been reduced to running this type of transparent catch-up campaign. Rolling out the big guns both President Bush and Condoleeza Rice have begun railing against the administration's critics yet things just don't appear to be going their way.

Today a Spanish diplomat was killed in Iraq and a suicide bomber killed eight Iraqi policemen in Baghdad. The poor Bush administration, they just cannot seem to get things together properly.
