The Enduring Democratic Shame

David Brooks, with whom I tend to agree on very little, is exactly right in what he says in his piece in today's NY Times.
It's shameful and scandalous that the Democrats in the House, led by Nancy Pelosi, have short-sightedly decided to sell out both Iraq and this country's interests for short-term political gain by opposing the President's request for money to rebuild Iraq. Completely ignoring the short and long-term geoolitical consequences of this vote, Pelosi and her gang are endangering the future of a stable and multiethnic Iraq as well as undermining US policy.
One can find more reason to forgive Nancy Pelosi, with her long, leftist record and extremely liberal San Francisco district, than they can to forgive John Kerry for voting against the President's request. Kerry supported the war in Iraq, and rightly so, but now he's basically sending a big "Fuck You" out to the Iraqi people and reinforcing the world's view of America as a country who will break it but won't fix it. His vote on this resolution is absolutely shameful and is disgusting pandering to the worst elements in the Democratic party.
Thank God for Maria Cantwell, our junior senator from Washington State, who stood up for what's right and supported this aid request.
