Liza and David's Sad End

The Smoking Gun today has incredibly hilarious story about the tragic and dangerous marriage between Liza and David. According to the court filing poor David Gest was injured by mean ol' Liza on numerous occasions and now suffers "excruciating" pain as a result of his injuries. He's asking for $10 million, evidently that's just the right amount to make him feel better.

An interesting fact is that David "now takes 11 prescription medications per day, some more than once" in order to treat his pain. I wonder how many he took before being married to Liza?

A Break in the Rain

For now at least. It's so warm today, like 70 degrees and in Portland it's 80!

All this rain has played havoc on our house. The ceiling started leaking yesterday and then water started coming into the basement through cracks in the floor, probably because the ground was so saturated. We drilled a hole in the ceiling to let out the water and did nothing in the basement, today it's much better.

African Hope

Sometimes the "dark" continent seems, well, hopeless. You look at corrupt leaders like Zimbabwe's Mugabe and you just want to turn away and never look back.

But there's always a bright spot and today it looks as if Sudan may finally end its terrible civil war. In Congo things are stable, and as they've been going downhill for as long as anyone can remember that by itself is progress. Rwanda is making an effort to come to terms with the horrible genocide it experienced in the 90's and in Burundi South African troops are on the ground hoping to prevent another, more similar genocide.

Hope is something that is never in short supply amongst Africans, instead concrete results are. Lets hope that this time African hopes and dreams are not destroyed as they have been so many times before.
