Republican Delusions

Every President lives in a bubble, surrounded by sycophants and others that do nothing but echo the party line. However I'm starting to think this White House has become frighteningly delusional, even by Republican standards.
The latest delusion emanating from the White House and the RNC is the Republican dream of taking California in 2004. They've been feeding this line to a willing and compliant media ever since the ouster of Gray Davis. It would be laughable if it weren't for the fact that the media is treating it so seriously.
Californians are LIBERAL. They're not going to vote for a CONSERVATIVE for president. Arnold is not a CONSERVATIVE but instead is a LIBERAL on social matters. Are you seeing the emphasis here? Why do Republicans feel that Californians ousting a lame and tired governor for an action-movie star means they're willing to embrace the President's anti-abortion, anti-environment and militaristic agenda? And more to the point is why does the media keep lapping this up like it's fact and not challenging the underlying basis of this assertion?
Looking at it from a purely political view I do hope the Repubs end up spending a shitload of money in CA next year because every dollar they spend there is less they can spend in places like NM, OH, AK and OR. All of these are states they either won or lost in 2000 by less than 5%. Despite Bush spending $20 million in CA in 2000 he lost the state by 11%, and the underlying political dynamics of California haven't changed, other than Gray Davis is no longer in charge. California's bad economy can't be blamed on Davis anymore and who will be in the governor's mansion and White House in 2004? We'll see where the anger is directed then.
Cocooning oneself in a warm blanket of delusions is a short term panacea for a long-term ill. Lets all hope Republicans keep themselves on this path because they'll make their defeat in 2004 that much easier for us.
