Ahhhh, the 90's

Don't Worry Baby, the Shareholders Have This One!

Conjuring up memories of the best dot-com launch parties in the 90's, video was shown today of ex-Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski's fabulously extravagant birthday party for his wife, held in Sardinia in 2000. Partying on shareholder funds, the ONLY way to party!

Giving Mathahir Credibility

The Senate today voted to cut off military assistance to Malayasia until the Secretary of State can certify that Malaysia's government "supports and promotes religious freedoms, including tolerance for people of the Jewish faith."

How interesting. In the spirit of this law I hope the Senate passes a law cutting off military assistance to Israel until Israel can prove that it promotes religious freedoms, including tolerance for people of the Christian faith.

The fact is that Christians in Israel, and particularly in Jerusalem, suffer at the hands of Jewish religious zealots, who seek to destroy all traces of Christianity's ancient heritage in Israel. Recently the Armenian, Orthodox and Catholic archbishops of Israel stated that the light of Christianity was dying in the holy land, under continuous assualt from the Israeli state.

I've heard outrage after outrage and continual handwringing from all types of pundits since Mathahir made his now infamous remarks with the culmination being this ban on aid to Malaysia. Where is the outrage over Israeli mistreatment of Christians in Israel?

Fires

                                                        Half-million acres charred

Isn't it interesting to listen to all the discussions regarding the fires in California? People have been assortedly blaming bark beetles, Santa Ana winds, arson, dry weather and overgrown forests for the fires, not neccesarily in that order.

But the one factor everyone is forgetting to blame is the PEOPLE themselves. Build a house in a burn location, it may burn down! Simple logic? Yes, but it's also true. As urban areas have spread out wider and wider we're opening ourselves to not only fires but mudslides & mountain lion and bear attacks.

What is the answer for all this? It ranges from the criminally insane idea of the Bush administration's "Healthy Forests Initiative", which basically says that to save the forests you have to cut them down, to deep ecologists saying we need to be reduced to a hunter-gatherer society in order to live in harmony with nature. Neither is realistic or acceptable. Instead the answers lie in people accepting that if they live in a dry region and a fire starts their house may burn, and there really isn't much they can do about it.

Come On Down...

Rod Roddy said it thousands of times:

With those eternal words Rod "Roddy" would welcome contestants to the Price is Right, an extravagantly tacky and yet hilarious gameshow on CBS. Rod stood for good times and badly-patterned couches, and today he died of cancer. I hope God yells "Come on down" to Roddy as he walks through those pearly gates and into the greatest game show ever.

America Worst Airlines

                                                                              No Choices, Many Restrictions

The company I am interviewing with in Dallas purchased my ticket on America West Airlines but neglected to give America West my frequent flier number so I could accrue the frequent flier miles. Today I checked America West's website and seeing they were partnered with NW Airlines I called them and asked that they use my NW FF number.

They told me that they only allow accrual of miles for NW if you're connecting to NW on an international flight. Otherwise you can only accrue miles on their lame little airline frequent flier program with its limited choice of destinations.

This is an example of the bad service and low quality that is driving people away from airlines like America "Worst". Bad on every count.

Here's more opinions on the shithole-in-the-air that is America West, thanks to eOpinion: "America West Airlines is not, in fact, the worst airline in the industry, according to the latest Airline Quality Rating. Actually, according to that study, it falls somewhere around average. However, after flying AWA this past President’s Day weekend, I have learned not to trust the “Airline Quality Rating.” America West Airlines is the worst form of transportation in the history of civilization. It is the worst thing, ever.
The saddest part is, I already knew this. “Once bitten, twice shy,” goes the saying. During intercession last year, a group of friends and I traveled to California on America West, and the results were disastrous. AWA cancelled four consecutive Las Vegas connections, sending us westward a day late. I wrote a letter to America West when I returned last year. I knew it wouldn’t make much of a difference, but I like to think my voice is important, and to compensate for the fact that it isn’t, I make threats."
