Andrew's Jihad

                                                           Buff Daddy feat: Power Glutes

Andrew Sullivan needs to cut back on his anti-HIV meds (or maybe just the testosterone he so famously wouldn't shut up about) because he's gettin' crazy!

His latest broadside is a piece in the New Republic (they're still around?) attacking Gen. Clark for his support of the war in Kosovo but his opposition to the one in Iraq. In Andrew's world being supportive of force in one place means you've always got to take the same position everywhere else.

Sullivan opines that Clark's opposition to the Bush administration's well-documented plans for regime change other places in the Middle East is "Ross Perot crazy." The funny thing is that we're seeing these plans in action right now, they've been publicly stated by Dennis Ross at State and Paul Wolfowitz at Defense. The only thing "Ross Perot Crazy" in this whole piece is Sullivan's usual hysterical, shrieking tone. Hey Andrew, it may work at White Party in Vizcaya but it comes across as smug and pretentious anywhere else.

Learn it, Live it, Love it.

Naked Sushi in Seattle

Today's Seattle Times had an interesting story about "Naked Sushi" where a naked model covered in sushi lays on a table and has sushi served off her body. Kinda strange but I've seen and done weirder things myself.

However it's not enough to have a "hands off" attitude about this type of thing in Seattle. Apparently a group of "women's activists" are demanding the restaurant stop offering its naked buffet and want to speak with the model. They feel she's "internalized her oppression" and she's being "de-humanized." And to top it off they've all been meeting at my school's campus (UW) to "plot their strategy."

Dragging out every buzzword in a women's studies class may make them feel good (at least they're putting those otherwise useless degrees to work), and would certainly make Shulamith Firestone and Andrea Dworkin happy, but it's not relevant to the situation. The model is happy with her "performance art" gig and the patrons just want to eat the sushi. So why do these self-declared "activists" feel they've the right to tell everyone else how to live their lives? Isn't the core of feminist thought allowing for the empowerment of women and encouraging them to live their dreams? Even if those dreams don't mirror the image most self-declared feminists have of what it means to be a women?

Andrea says: No Damned Naked Sushi!!

That's what I was taught by my mother, a well-known feminist and at one point one of the youngest members of NOW. But to these new sexual puritans anything involving the naked body and women is dirty and to be discouraged. The left on feminist thought has more in common with the right on matters of sexuality in that they're both against free choice and they both want to impose outmoded and puritanical views on everyone else.

Thank God for George Soros

As usual the Right is playing schoolyard bully and whining when they've found they've met their match, this time in financier George Soros.

Soros is making it the central focus of his life to defeat Bush in 2004 and he's putting his money where his mouth is, pledging over $15.5 million so far to various causes seeking to defeat the President in 2004. That amount includes $10 million for the campaign American Coming Together, which is in the vanguard of opposing Bush's policies that are weaking our country and destroying its image abroad. In addition he's matching contributions mde to Moveon.org at 50%.

Soros and other like him, Seattle-based Real Networks founder Rob Glaser and Peter Lewis, founder of Progressive, are not just talking but walking the talk in the effort to defeat Bush in 2004. With these type of backers we can match the Republicans massive fundraising prowess and turn back the right-wing tide before it pulls us all completely under.

Clark On Top

Wesley Clark, right, walks with former South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges, who endorsed the retired general's candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination on Friday.

A recent poll shows Wesley Clark on top in South Carolina with 17%, following him is North Carolina Senator Edwards with 10%.

Again this shows the fallacy of allowing Iowa, a small midwestern state with a population inordinately fond of farming, to be the first in picking a candidate. Dean is ahead in NH, another small state, and Gephardt seems to be ruling Iowa but it's states like South Carolina that carry the most weight nationally, and that's exactly where Clark is doing the best.

Holiday

Yes tomorrow is one and I have no class. So a sweet, lazy, hazy day for me.
