South Beach Diet Day 5
I've lost weight already. As I'm not weighing myself I know this because my flexibility has improved in yoga. Today was a great day, a day I saw some results and had a really fantastic Bikram yoga class.
For breakfast I had a two-egg scramble with avocado, onion, cheese, salmon and spinach along with veggie juice and two pieces of Canadian bacon. I got up late and didn't want to eat lunch right before yoga so I skipped that meal and had some celery with low-fat Laughing Cow cheese instead. After yoga I had dinner which consisted of grilled, thin sliced steak and a salad with lump crab meat and organic vegetables.

The Story That Shows Everything That Is Wrong With America

A women named Kathie McGinn shops at Abercrombie and Fitch, she leafs through the Christmas catalogue and is shocked, SHOCKED that is shows half-nekkid, nubile 20-somethings cavorting under a Christmas tree. This women isn't going to take this lying down! No, despite being a "fairly liberal" person she has decided that because she doesn't like something then no one should have access to it.
Ms. McGinn feels as a mother that everyone should be involved in the raising of her children. We all should have our tastes dictated by what passes her prurient sensibilities. It's not enough for the catalogue to be sold only to those 18 and above, she doesn't want ANYONE looking at the catalogue.
This women is a prudish, nagging harpy and she should take her ass back to Palo Alto and stop trying to be the Soviet-era kommisar of what we read and wear. If she doesn't like it then she doesn't have to read it. It's not my responsibility or obligation to dumb down my tastes so her little 13 year-old won't be offended. What kind of a mother is she anyway if her kids are so impressionable that reading an A & F catalogue is going to warp them for the future?

Sweet News
Towards a New Day
Whenever you feel like the news is always bad, and you read of more casulties in Iraq and more terrorist bombings elsewhere you then happen upon a story like the one unfolding in Georgia today.
As I said yesterday the news that Georgia is undergoing a velvet revolution like those in the former Czechoslovakia and getting rid of its authoritarian and corrupt president is a wonderful thing, for both Georgians and for other people in the Caucasus region.
Today Eduard Shevardnadze resigned as president. The Georgian people have accomlished a peaceful and democratic revoltuion with non loss of life and little violence. I hope they work towards building a just and free society and towards the re-integration of their national territory.

Word of Mouth Reports
I recently received a strange e-mail from Word of Mouth Reports.com which is some sort of information gathering and disseminating service on the web.
It alarms me that there are 4 listings for my e-mail address, three with people who have information about me and one with someone looking for information on me. One person claims to have know me well, in the professional sense, over the past year. This would be highly unlikely because I have been in academia for the past year and haven't done anything related to my profession in that time.
Strange indeed, a gathering house for people to share and exchange information on you, and you have no idea what they're saying.
