Like I Said...

Nick Kristof is so right in what he says in his column in today's New York Times. I especially like this portion:

It was 1972, and I was antiwar and infatuated with Senator George McGovern. But as I handed out McGovern leaflets in Yamhill County, Ore., I was greeted as if I were the Antichrist. Soon afterward, Mr. McGovern was defeated in a landslide.

As Howard Dean will probably be, if the Democrats nominate him.

It is, of course, the Democrats' privilege to stand on principle, embrace the man they admire most and leap off a cliff together. Political parties have a hoary tradition of committing principled suicide, as the G.O.P. did with Barry Goldwater in 1964 and, most masochistically, the Democrats did three times with William Jennings Bryan from 1896 to 1908.

Yep, we're all headed for a staggering defeat in 2004 if Dean is the nominee for our party.

Hey Look! It's the Democrats After Election Night 2004!

It's amazing to watch this process unfold like a twisted, bloody trainwreck in slow motion. Because Dean may win the first two votes in New Hampshire and Iowa he is therefore crowned our nominee. The press and the pundits have begun beating the Dean drum and ramping up the aura of inevitability around his candidacy, despite the fact that he's going to lose BIG against Bush if he's nominated.

Dean is arrogant and angry and those two qualities do not play well my friends. They may get the rabid Bush-haters excited but exciting the extreme doesn't win elections, just ask Bush's father who lost in 1992 party because he catered to the Rabid Right in his own party.
