Dumbshit Lawsuit of the Month!

                                                              Gimme Money!!!!!!!!

Descendants of slaves filed a $1 billion lawsuit Monday against U.S. and British corporations, accusing them of profiting by committing genocide against their ancestors.

Lawyers for the eight plaintiffs said the complaint was the first slave reparations lawsuit to use DNA to link the plaintiffs to Africans who suffered atrocities during the slave trade.

The suit filed in federal court in Manhattan accuses Lloyd's of London, FleetBoston and R.J. Reynolds of "aiding and abetting the commission of genocide" by allegedly financing and insuring the ships that delivered slaves to tobacco plantations in the United States.

The defendants "have destroyed our national and ethnic identity," one of the plaintiffs, Deadria Farmer-Paellmann, said at a news conference announcing the suit.

There are so many holes in litigation like this that it taxes one's mind to dig into them, but let's go over two of the most glaringly obvious.

1. Genocide as a legal term didn't exist in practice until the 1940's and as a crime, which signatories to the Convention on Preventing Genocide must halt if it takes place, came into force after each signatory to the Convention has ratified said Convention. You can't say that "Genocide" was practiced as a legal matter because "Genocide" didn't exist as a legal definition before the 1940's.

2. Statute of Limitations. This case is exactly what statutes of limitations are designed to bring to a halt.

Deadria Farmer-Paellmann would be much better served by addressing the root causes of African-American inability to reach parity with whites in the US. Maybe she could start by addressing the dependency mentality which lawsuits like hers encourage. Blame anyone else for your problems, just don't blame yourself.

The Kerry Fundraiser

What an amazing success! The ballroom was jam-packed with Democrats ready and eager to throw Bush out of the White House. Kerry was there along with his wife Theresa and they said we raised over $2.9 million last night!
