My Thesis Work

I'm deeply superstitious talking or writing about things that have been started but not completed. I don't know where it comes from but if I'm dating a new hot guy I don't like to spill the beans until things are great between us lest they fall apart. The same goes for interviewing for a job or in this case, writing my thesis.

Still I've decided to post the opening statement here for my readers. I'm feeling good about my progress and should complete it by the end of this year.

The use of reciprocity by Greece and the Turkish Republic in the treatment of each state’s respective minority Greek Orthodox and Turkish Muslim populations.

This study analyzes the use of the principal of reciprocity in international relations by Greece and the Turkish Republic in regards to each state’s treatment of its own ethnic and or/religious minorities. Data was gathered from interviews with Greek Orthodox people of Turkish heritage in both the United States and Turkey during a period of 6 months in 2003. Data on the Turkish Muslim population was gathered in the same manner during the same time in both Greece and Turkey. In addition data was used which was provided by the governments of Greece and Turkey as well as the European Union and the United Nations. On-site interviews were conducted with religious leaders of both communities in Greece and Turkey including representatives of the Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople as well as the Supreme Muslim Mufti of the Xanthi region of Greece. As both minorities are officially recognized only by religious affiliation and not ethnicity, the involvement of religious authorities as de-facto political leaders was regarded as academically necessary to support the development and conclusion of this study.

Additional documents were provided by Amnesty International, International Crisis Group, Human Rights Watch – Europe and more than 120 articles from news sources in the United States, Germany, Britain, Greece and Turkey were also used.
