Is it possible to actually go to White Party in Palm Springs and:
- Not sleep with anyone else but your boyfriend?
- Not do any drugs?
- Keep kosher?
- Not actually attend any White Party official events?
The answer is yes, at least to three of the options above. I had a great time doing nothing but sitting in the sun and reading. Friday we got in and went to a party at an estate in the hills of Palm Springs, which was absolutely amazing with a fabulous pool and spa. The next two days my boyfriend attended two events (the pool party and the White Party) while I did not. It’s a measure of the level of trust in our relationship that it didn’t bother either him or me.
The only issue for me was the people we were sharing the condo with. You can only hear so many stories about drugs, people on the dancefloor, DJs, previous parties and sexual escapades, hairstyles and past boyfriends before you get bored. For me the limit was reached within 2 hours and after that I had three days to go.
Another issue was how difficult it was to understand who all the gay men were talking about because they referred to everyone in the female sense. “She did this” and “She did that.” It turns out they were talking about both men and women but this particularly catty group of LA and San Diego homos just LOVED calling everyone “Girl” and “She.” Their make-up bags also were bigger than my moms and there's something wrong when the men are wearing more shit on their faces than the women.
We arrived back to a cold and windy San Francisco and our stairs in the back almost done. I had a nice time, bought two cool Versace shirts and made up my mind that I’m glad I left the circuit-party scene three years ago. It’s nice to come and see what everyone is up to but it’s a life I never want to live again.
