Everything's Fine & Blame Clinton
I didn't watch much of Bush's live news conference yesterday owing to the fact that someone cut a cable line here in San Francisco and the Internet and cable were both down for much of the day and night. I did, however, hear that when asked to name a mistake his administration had made since it's inauguration he couldn't come up with anything.

I'm curious to see how this comes off, some would say it's confident and others would say it's repulsive. I think Bush, despite being of below-average intelligence, appeals to many Americans because he speaks to them on a level that they understand. Americans distain elitism and can't stand it when they're spoken to like babies. Bush speaks to them a level above baby-talk and they lap it up, in their minds he's so "down to earth" and "easily understandable" when in reality he's as confused as they are by Iraq and other events. Maybe mirroring that confusion with a dose of presidential authority will reassure the American people. Anyway it will be fun to find out.
I enjoyed reading about John Ashcroft's session in front of the 9/11 commission. His testimony can easily be summarized as "It's all Clinton's fault" despite President Clinton's obsession with killing Osama. Everyone knows Ashcroft was more concerned about bare breasts in the Justice department and doing everything he could to make abortion more difficult. He could care less about Al-Queda or Osama before 9/11 and probably, like Condoleeza Rice, had little to no idea who they even were.
