Gardening
... that's what I've been up to all day long.

I woke early and decided to head to this nursery to pick up plants for the window boxes I ordered from Restoration Hardware and had installed this week. I had a choice of copper or zinc, and although I am a major copper man (it's always been my dream to have a house with a copper roof and gutters) but surprisingly I chose zinc. Why? Because our house is yellow and white and I thought the dark color of zinc would look better.
I went and bought ivy-style geraniums and indigo lobelia for the boxes in the front of the house, herbs for the box by the kitchen window and impatiens for the box sitting by the front entrance. I also got some tomato, eggplant and pumpkin plants. I then headed down to the Castro to check on that box of CDs I brought down yesterday to sell. I had left them there yesterday because there is a law in the state of California which states that to sell merchandise to a buyer one must possess a valid California ID or DL. I still haven't turned my WA DL in yet so they said I could bring my passport, which I did. That arrangement worked out nicely and my BF's music collection has been much improved.
Planting window boxes is a pain in the ass, especially if one is doing it from inside the house. I don't own a ladder so I decided to haul 30 pound bags of potting soil into the living room and spare bedroom along with the plants and fertilizer and do it that way. What a mess, bending over that whole time killed my back. Then I ran out of potting soil so I had to make another trip to the garden center.
I fired our landscape guy yesterday because he called, yet again, with some lame-ass excuse about why he couldn't be here to complete a job he had started on Monday. Something about someone having his truck and their wife being pregnant and blah, blah, blah. Today the new guy came and gave me an idea about cost and that sort of thing for pruning our shrubs and trees in the back. I'd do it myself but I'd have to go to Home Depot and purchase all this new equipment and after all that and the hassle of driving outside San Francisco it's probably more cost-effecient to pay someone else than do it myself.
Tonight the Good Doc and I are off to the JCC for my Jewish conversion classes. Tonight's topic is "Anti-semitism - its different facets and how to deal with them."
