Fog

We're at the top of Twin Peaks in San Francisco so we tend to get the fog when it's heavy. Tonight it poured in like heavy clouds down our street. I wish I had a digital camera (and will get one soon) to show you what it was like. It also smelled so good. Rich and loamy like fresh, turned earth.

"Just Following Orders"

So far I've seen good 'ol West Virginia gal Lynndie England posing with nude and humiliated Iraqis with a cig hanging out of her trap, leading one guy (above) who is on a leash and wearing a very unfortunate off-the-rack sweatshirt from Wal-Mart and looking suspiciously dyke-like.

I guess you could say maybe she made a mistake if it were just one picture, but now there are two and I have a feeling more are coming. And Lynndie, where is she? She's sitting in the brig at Ft. Bragg, knocked-up by another soldier implicated in this abuse scandal. And her family swears up and down that she's really a "gentle person" who was just "following orders."

"Following orders" has very negative connotations for a Jew like me. It's the excuse Hitler's henchmen used in WWII to try and escape responsibility for the Holocaust and it's always the last refuge of those that don't wish to accept responsibility for their actions in wartime. I don't buy it from Lynndie or the guy who fucked her and knocked her up or any of the rest of the soldiers. They have shamed themselves, the US Armed Forces and this country with their inexcusable actions. Worse yet they've set back US policy in the region and destroyed any last vestiges of goodwill that the Iraqis had for the United States. Heads should roll and I hope Donald Rumsfeld is the first. But more importantly I hope these soldiers, including Lynndie, pay a harsh price for their crimes.
