Thank G-d It's Finally Over
I'm talking about Reagan's funeral. This syrupy, mawkish parade of sympathy for "the gipper" had my stomach turning the entire time.
I don't have a lot of fond memories of Reagan. His tax cuts did nothing for my family and his cuts in education aid only made it harder for my mom to finish college. He failed to even mention the word "AIDS" as thousands of my gay male brothers died terrible, lingering deaths and his speechwriter Pat Buchanan said "The poor homosexuals, they declared war on nature and now nature has declared war on them."
Nope, Shane doesn't remember those supposedly "Golden years" as positive for many people other than the top 1% of wage earners in this country. The crack epidemic ravaged the black community, AIDS ravaged the gay community, deficits climbed and the poor got a whole lot poorer. Someone please tell me just exactly what the hell we're supposed to be mourning?
