Beheadings
I don't know which is more repulsive: the beheadings of non-Muslims by Al Qaeda or Al Qaeda's apologists in the West.
I've read, on certain unnamed blogs, about how the invasion of Iraq is to blame for these beheadings. The sub-current of all these writings is that really the victims of the beheadings are to blame for their lot, as if they lopped off their own heads and the Islamic fascists who actually carried out the murders are some mirage created by the Western media.
The crux of their argument is that the victims of these murders were in Saudi Arabia, or Iraq, or Pakistan helping to "exploit" those nation's natural resources so it's a natural reaction of the local populace to want to kill them. As perverse as this logic sounds it is what many far-left bloggers and writers in the West are using to justify the murder by Al Qaeda of their fellow citizens.
This logic is so perverse and unreasonable as to be unjustifiable. Daniel Pearl, a journalist for the Wall Street Journal, was beheaded in Pakistan while covering a story on Al Qaeda. What, exactly, were the "natural resources" he was exploiting? And how did his being a Jew, which Al Qaeda had him on film admitting to, have anything to do with the right of Al Qaeda to murder him?
Nick Berg was an observant Jew in Iraq attempting to get a contract to build and maintain cell phone towers. The same blogger I mentioned above basically excused his death by saying he shouldn't have been in Iraq in the first place. And no, I won't mention his blog, because every time a beheading takes place his hits go through the roof because he does the best he can to find the most horrific and revolting pictures possible and then trumpet those pictures in large, garishly colored headlines. I can see him now, giggling maniacally in front of the his flickering PC screen, face washed in the colors of photos of terrified Americans as they beg for their lives and as he searches for additional bloody pictures of beheaded Westerners.
The twisted logic used by these writers to defend the murder of their fellow citizens is revolting, inexcusable and tragic. It's the same logic we saw used after 9/11 to excuse that atrocity and it runs like a foul stream through much of the anti-American left, the idea that the murder of innocents is justified in a political struggle. Although when Israel targets a known terrorist leader who has ordered the murders of hundreds of Israeli civilians, these same writers howl to the heavens about "Israeli genocide" and talk about how an eye-for-an-eye will make the whole world blind. Their double-standards are nauseating and indefensible
There is no excuse for the deliberate torture and murder of civilians, be they Iraqi, Saudi, American, French, Palestinian or Israeli. Try getting a hard-line leftist like Noam Chompsky to agree with you on this and you'll see how morally corrupt much of the left in this country, and indeed the world, has become.
I can tell you right now what the response to this post will be: "The US Army has murdered THOUSANDS of innocent Iraqis" and the underlying message of that statement is that any American killed by Islamic terrorists deserves it. Stretch that disgusting logic out further, as Al Qaeda has, and not only does any American deserve it but anyone who is non-Muslim and non-Arab deserve it as well, like the Korean worker who was beheaded today.
Sad, but true. This is what the Left has turned into in the world of today, a bunch of leftist lynch gang apologists for murderers and religious fascists.
