Salon.com's Stephanie Zacharek writes a great piece here on why Michael Moore's new movie is so... well... annoying. She hits the nail on the head exactly.
I hate seeing these kinds of political movies in San Francisco because the smug sense of leftist self-righteousness fills the air in the theater like cheap cologne. It's cloying and boring and in a way reminds me of what it would have been like to attend one of Stalin's show trials. Everyone hisses at the right parts, cheers at the others and they all sit staring at the screen with their eyes glazed over, lulled by their false prophets and cocooned in a stale blanket of liberal smugness.
Yeah, I'm a liberal as well, I hate Bush and think he's a terrible president. But I don't pay $9.50 to go to a movie and listen to the people in the audience state their opinions. I know they all hate Bush, this is SAN FRANCISCO for God's sake! I live on Twin Peaks, right by the CASTRO! Is everyone getting it now? I just want to watch the movie and make up my own mind, but here people want to do that for you. They'll tell you what to think and how to think it and you have no choice in the matter.
Maybe I'll journey to San Jose' or further afield to catch a glimpse of Moore's new screed.
