The Craziness Begins...
Yep, this weekend is San Francisco's Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade and this city is already shakin' and quakin'. Yesterday on my way to the gym I drove past the Castro, as I do every day, and there were leather daddies running around in the street. I'm sure by the end of the weekend I'll see a lot crazier than that, and not have a lot of choice in the matter.
I went to the parade in 1992, which was my freshman year in college. It was overwheming and fun, I remember it being a bright sunny day, my first time in San Francisco, and I was having a great time. This city was different then, battered by AIDS with the sunny optimism and freedom of the 70's destroyed. Now that I live here I think it's coming back, although since I was just a tyke in the 70's I couldn't say for sure.
Still, we all make do with what we have and I'm going to try and have a great time this weekend. I'm fortunate to live on a hill in San Francisco in a beautiful house overlooking the bay and with my boyfriend, who's an amazing and wonderful guy, and he's also a Jewish doctor! Who ever knew a kid from Colorado could get so lucky?
