Down With Deconstructionism

Derrida died this weekend. Good riddance.

That man and his lame-ass theories of deconstructionism made my college life a living hell. Luckily I didn't attend an East coast university, where generations of feeble-minded leftist tenured professors were long in thrall to Derrida, but I still had to listen to enough of that deconstructionist crap in university to last me a lifetime.

I don't agree with Camille Paglia on much. I regard her as much more of an enfant terrible than a true scholar but she was always right about the complete unfathomability of deconstructionism and the strangeness of its hold on American academics.

Here's an example of bullshit deconstructionism at its worst:

She will discuss queer disruptions of global flows in two contexts: the
political significance of popular film  narratives of "white male stupidity"
such as Dude, Where's My Car? and the theoretical importance of recent
rethinkings of the relation between queer spatiality and queer temporality.
In each of these very different cases, Halberstam draws on the insights of
post-modern geography in order to disrupt the reproductive time of the
nation. Both the public lecture and the workshop offer paradigms for
reimagining the globalization of sexualities in terms of a queer critique by
locating sexual politics today at the intersections of struggles over race,
gender, class, and nationality.

Sun

As I drove in the amazing 80+ degree California weather, bound for an appointment with the Botox needle, I couldn't help but be glad to be back in the USA. The weather in San Francisco is like Lombard street, full of twists and turns but today it has straightened out and sunned-up.

Botox - not on my face but in my armpits so I don't sweat. I hate that feeling of being sweaty and having rings on your shirts and when you're traveling to a country with 90% humidity it becomes a major factor to consider. So today I again submitted to the needle and now I'm good for another sweat-free six months.

Enough about sweaty armpits, onto reader comments:

Paying for sex - Strangely the only comments I've received on this entry are from gay men swooning over the escort featured in the picture. See, that's the great thing about escorts, the fantasty CAN become reality, and all with the swipe of the ATM card. I've never hired on myself but I sure am not above it, especially if my boyfriend were to say it's OK.

Jet Lag - It seems I'm over it but I still slept like shit last night. It was a warmer-than-normal night and that, combined with the bottle of red wine we shared with our friend for dinner contributed to me tossing and turning 'till early morning hours. Luckily I worked from home today so I could get those shots and that meant I could sleep a little later.
