So far I've resisted the urge to change to Time Warner Cable. But I'm suffering serious Tour de France withdrawal.  But the last two days I've been so busy that I really wouldn't have had time to watch it anyway.

I'm reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. Very weird book. Very small book, too. I'm reading it because it's a Newberry and it has been laying around here waiting for Nate to read it. He has to read it and two other books over the summer in preparation for 8th grade honors English.  In a nutshell, it's the story of a kid who lives in a community where everything is controlled...what you say, what you do for a living, what kids you have.  The kid is selected to be a "Receiver".  He is trained by a "Giver". His job will be to hold all the  memories of the past when the world was not controlled.

Last night Mensa Boy and I went over to "adult-only" swim at the Rec Center in our neighborhood. On the way there we met some new neighbors 3 doors down.  They have a boy and a girl that are 10 and 11, so now we'll finally have some kids our guys can spend time with. Their kids aren't here yet...they are staying with Grandparents while parents get settled. They also have a son who just graduated high school. He seems like a nice guy, too.  I think on Saturday, I'll stick notes on doors up and down the street inviting people to meet over at the pool for the next "adult-only" swim that night.

Tomorrow I go to our county seat to meet the head librarian. I figure I'd better get a library card, too. I was sworn into the county library board on Monday night and I don't even have a card! I'm excited about serving in this capacity, as our part of the county is slated to receive its own branch in the coming year or so.  Right now we have only a bookmobile that comes. But I go up into Charlotte and use the Charlotte-Mecklenburg library. I pay $25 each year to use it, and it's very much worth it.

That's all for now...OH! My friend Lil says Paul and Babe aren't going to be separated after all! She said there was an article in the paper (I figure she means the Strib) that said someone found a way to keep the two together! I'll have to look that up when I have time.
