I've developed a concern about that chunk of granite with the 10 commandments on it.

It really seems like a violation of one of the 10 commandments.  "Thou shalt have no gods before me".  Yeah, that one.

Okay, I'm a Christian.  I believe in the 10 commandments. I think it would be cool if we could just go around sticking up monuments that remind us of our God and what He wants us to do to live peaceful lives.

But unfortunately, it's not cool in our society.  Sure, we want everyone to believe what we believe. And we do have a commission to make disciples of all nations.

But ramming granite monuments down their throats, I believe, isn't going to bring in new disciples.  I kind of think it's going to alienate them...make us think we are nuts. And aren't they going to wonder why we are putting so much effort into preserving a chunk of granite that tells us not to put our faith in chunks of granite? Isn't this making some of them think we are hypocritical?

I wonder if God is thinking maybe we should direct all these efforts and all this money to more toward feeding the poor and teaching the gospel, rather than having sit-ins and court actions.

Just wondering.

We had a bit of a busy weekend here.

Friday my friend Cassie and I went furniture shopping.  Mensa Boy says furniture stores make his hips hurt.  I totally understand that. My Mom used to drag me to fabric stores when I was a kid, and to this day, just pulling into the parking lot of Joann's makes my feet tired.

We went to this very cool furniture outlet in the town next to us in North Carolina. Had to drive around in the country a bit to find it, but there it was, big as life.  And it is big. It's in an old school.  Their overhead costs are extremely low and they prove it by not air conditioning the building.

But boy the stuff you can find there! I found 4 bedroom sets I liked and a couch and loveseat for the family room.

So Friday night I took Mensa Boy back there. He liked one of the bedroom sets and a different couch and loveseat than I had chosen, but we agreed on our final selections and paid for them on the spot.  You pretty much have to. They have signs all over that say "If you see, it buy it or it'll be gone".

They don't deliver, but they do have people they recommend so we made arrangements and now the stuff will be here Wednesday.

Saturday morning we had rehearsal for our Praise Team at church. This month we are teaching the congregation "Ancient Words", which is on Michael W. Smith's "Worship Again" album.  We will do that and three other songs for the Praise & Worship time before Sunday School next week and then we'll do "Ancient Words" as a special music in the service.

Saturday afternoon Bob took Nate to get his hair colored and cut.  He wanted orange highlights put in his hair, but they were out. So he had it bleached blond.

Sunday we went to Lowe's to buy paint for the bedroom (I would like to get that done before the furniture comes) and also some landscape bricks. We had some Lowe's guys load 110 of these bricks in the back of the van and then the van wouldn't start!

So, they very patiently unloaded all the bricks and we pushed the car into a parking spot and called the old trusty Chrysler Customer Care number that had rescued Mom and Me in Rochester in June.  Since it was Sunday, we decided to just have the towing company tow on Monday.

So here we are 15-20 miles from home with no car.  The boys were home.  Usually what do you do in a situation like this? You call your Dad. But Dad's in Minneapolis. So we started dialing friends from church.  Our faithful friend Harold came and picked us up and took us home.

I've got to get some cookies baked for that guy.

So Big Greenie is suffering the indignity of being towed for the second time this summer. Hopefully it's just the starter motor.
