Mensa Boy suddenly has a bit of a honey-do list.
2 shingles are loose on the roof. We don't have a ladder tall enough.Hopefully neighbor Mary R's ladder will be.
He replaced a sprinkler head last night. We always thought the irrigation system was just this mysterious thing. But now it turns out that it can be mastered. We were amazed how easy it was to replace. And cheap! Less than $9 for the head.
He has to take up caulk in our shower and replace. There is one little one-inch strip where it's pulling away from the marble. He hates caulking. Poor baby.
A couple of weekends ago he repaired an area of vinyl tile in the "potty room" part of our bathroom. It was curling up and we figured we'd have to replace all the vinyl in there, because the reason it was curling was that the stupid flooring people put a seam about an inch away from the wall. If you replace just the part that's curling, you'll end up with another one shortly after. Well, he used Gorilla Glue and weighted it down with a small anvil he had (I don't KNOW, don't even ask!). Better than new!
But today he has to deal with bugs. Mensa Boy is pretty tough under that gentle exterior, but bugs...especially crunchy ones, really really give him the heebie jeebies. Yes, we have Orkin. They come every other month and spray the lawn for fire ants, the perimeter of the house, and all through the interior. The only bugs we have are dead ones!
Except the Japanese Beetles. Orkin doesn't do those.
I received an email from Scotts telling me it's time to put on Grub-Ex to kill grubs in the lawn. I mentioned it to Jesse, our neighborhood lawnmower guy. "Yes" he said "Gotta get that on. The Japanese beetles are out in full force." He found them all over his fruit trees.
So I bought the grub-killer stuff. Last night I mentioned to neighbor Mary R that she could have the last half-bag of mine...we only need a bag-and-a-half. So we are talking about Japanese Beetles and grubs. They both are the same insect...the grubs are the larvae. She said she had some beetles and she was plucking them off her Crape Myrtle and River Birch trees. So I looked at my beautiful Crape Myrtle and there they were. So back to Lowe's for spray for the tree.
So Mensa Boy has to mow the lawn, spray the tree, spread the killer on the lawn and turn on the irrigation system to water it in, and adjust that new sprinkler head. Fix the roof, caulk the shower....
The boys and I will be inside getting ready for my sister and her family to come. They will arrive around suppertime.
Time to work!
