We are back from a whirlwind tour of Charleston again.  This time we hit Sticky Fingers for barbecue and The Crab Shack for seafood (irritating music on that link...you've been warned).

For sightseeing, we went to the South Carolina Aquarium and Fort Sumter.  For just fooling around, we hit Folly Beach. That is a link to the City of Folly Beach. Here is the Folly Surf Cam.

It poured the entire drive down to Charleston. We had periods where the rain was coming down so hard, that we probably should have pulled over.  We got to Charleston right around 1 pm, so we went straight to Sticky Fingers.  They have their sauces in most of the grocery stores around here, but I've never tried them. I definitely will now. This is a chain a restaurants, but a fairly small one. I heard about them on Food TV. Apparently the restaurant in Charleston is the first one.  The barbecue was excellent. I had chicken, which I think is the hardest to keep moist. It was perfect. Everyone was very happy with their food. The service was pretty slow, though. We arrived right at the end of lunch hour, so the place was emptying out. But it still took about 30 minutes or so to get our food. The waitress seemed to be stuck with way too many tables.

From there we walked to the Aquarium. Our original intent was to hit the Fort Sumter tour right away. But the last boat left at 2:30 so we missed it by a hair. We didn't realize the aquarium and the Fort Sumter thing were connected. We were able to buy a combined ticket for both and use the Fort Sumter portion in the morning.

We spent quite a lot of time in the Aquarium. It's very nice.

After that, we went to our Hotel and basically just spent the evening by the pool and having supper delivered by Jason's Deli. We stayed at the Charleston Riverview. It was the best price we could get and still be close to downtown. It was still $105 for one night, tax included. It's an okay hotel. The rooms were clean and the lobby is up-to-date. Good pool. Breakfast very bad.

We got to the first Fort Sumter Tour at 9:30. It basically is an hour-and-a-half on the boat there and back (45 mins each way) and then an hour on the Fort. It was quite hot, so I was glad we hadn't made it the afternoon before. Very fascinating place and good exhibits.

Then we went straight to Folly Beach and hit the Crab Shack for lunch. After that, the beach itself. We really could only stay about an hour at the beach because we were concerned about sunburn and it was getting late in the afternoon for driving back home.  The water was perfect. Lots of people out on a Thursday afternoon. I was amazed at the number of people fishing off the pier.

And now the plan this morning is to go to Courtney's for breakfast. It's supposed to be the best breakfast in Charlotte. Our guests leave this afternoon, so we'll probably just hang around here after breakfast. It's going to be sad when they leave.
