For the past two weeks, Taylor has been taking swimming lessons at our community pool. I'm very pleased with the way it's worked out.

The saga began more than a month ago, when there was a sign-up sheet asking for interested families. I asked him and he was very emphatic about NOT doing it!  Those of you who know Taylor well can picture him standing there, bobbing his head, saying with that voice that is high enough to compete with a vacuum cleaner...."NO! Ijust. don't. wantto!"

But after taking to Daddy about it, I signed him up anyway. We decided not to tell him until lessons were about to start.

The day I told him, he refused to speak to me for 2 hours.

The first day of lessons, Nate had to take him over there, since I was working the poll. He went without trouble and was evaluated and put in a class.  With only 2 other kids. One is a girl of 6 and the other a boy from Cub Scouts who is 8.

And it's been delightful ever since.  He likes the teacher and the teacher clearly likes the kids. Yesterday, at my request, the teacher took the 3 of them to the "deep" part (only 5 feet) and showed them how to tread water and what to do if they suddenly find themselves in the deep end and scared. She then had them actually swim the crawl to her while in the deep end. Taylor was a bit terrified at first. But he settled right down and Nate said that when they went to the pool yesterday, he actually spent quite a bit of time in the deeper end.

Lessons end on Friday and the teacher has indicated that, while she will probably not do anymore group lessons this summer, she may be open to some individual lessons.  Taylor has said he would be interested in that.
