We have a little column in The Observer called "The Buzz". It's on the Op Ed page and I really enjoy it. It's consists of pithy sayings Observer readers have sent in to the paper about the paper itself, politics, Charlotte, sports, etc.  Yesterday this gem appeared:

"Turning an interim, occupying government back over to the people is a good thing. I look forward to us doing that here in November."

Last night we had a rare moment when all four of us were actually sitting in the same room, pretty much doing nothing.  That doesn't happen very much. With the exception of Taylor perhaps, we are pretty much introverts and usually you have to tour all around the house to find all of us, each in a separate room.  So I thought "hmmm...too late at night to start a game. Wonder what we can do?" So I put in the Netflix I had home, "The Gold Rush" with Charlie Chaplin. Mensa Boy stated categorically that he does not care for Chaplin. "Too wussy." He said. Something about Chaplin's walk. Second time he's used the word wussy in so many days. Must be some sort of current issue with him.  But he did watch the movie for the most part and laughed. The boys, especially Nate, really enjoyed the movie. This was not the original silent version, but a 1942 re-release with Chaplin narrating.

We got to thinking that perhaps Tony Shalhoub's character "Monk" might be partly inspired by Chaplin. There are definitely some things about Monk that are reminiscent of Chaplin.

And speaking of Monk: the new season premiered two weeks ago. We were very entertained by two new episodes and then last night was a re-run from last season. We felt ripped off, but forgiving.
