Well, I met with the general agent for the Farm Bureau this afternoon and it went really well. But, it's not what I'm looking for.  They'd give me an in-force book of business to maintain and expect me to prospect prospect prospect for more.

He described making 40 phone calls a week to set up enough appointments for the following week.

I would totally hate that.

I also am not really sure about the Farm Bureau being something people would think of when those people have moved here from big Northern cities. I mean, I just kind of think that people who are cosmopolitan, urban people do not really think about joining the Farm Bureau.  It seems to me like it would a tough crowd to work for business.

Most of the people who move to our county work in Charlotte. And most work for big companies that have a full range of benefits. Sure, they need some homeowners and car insurance, but a lot of their life insurance and retirement benefits are held at their workplace.

So there you go. I'm not feeling too bad about it. Something will come up.

Here's something you can do if you are cooped up on the office with nothing to do this afternoon:

20 Questions to a Better Personality

I scored SRDF-Here is the description:

You are an SRDF--Sober Rational Destructive Follower. This makes you a font of knowledge. You are cool, analytical, intelligent and completely unfunny. Sometimes you slice through conversation with a cutting observation that causes silence and sidelong glances. You make a strong and lasting impression on everyone you meet, the quality of which depends more on their personality than yours.

You may feel persecuted, as you can become a target for fun. Still, you are focused enough on your work and secure enough in your abilities not to worry overly.

You are productive and invaluable to those you work for. You are loyal, steadfast, and conscientious. Your grooming is impeccable. You are in good shape.

You are kind of a tool, but you get things done. You are probably a week away from snapping.

I've read a couple great books this week. Both are rather small and were quick reads.

The first is Eleanor & Abel by Annette Sanford. Generally I don't read romance novels. Not enough story for me. But this one is very charming. The people falling in love are in their 70s and it takes place in some small town somewhere in the South. She is a spinster & retired schoolteacher, still living in her dead parents house. He is somewhat of a drifter/carpenter. He spots a cottage on her property that is in need of repair and convinces her to let him fix it up.  It's a gentle story with humor.

The second book was recommended to me by brother Doug T.  It's Home to Harmony by Philip Gulley.  If you like the Jan Karon books about Mitford, you'll definitely love this one.  It's actually a series of short stories, but since all the stories are about this small Southern town of Harmony and the folks who attend our hero's quaker meetinghouse, it ties in nicely and almost tricks you into thinking you are reading one novel and not a bunch of short stories.   The hero of the book is Quaker minister named Sam. He does definitely have a slight worldly bent. Gulley is a Quaker minister living in Indiana.  I wonder if his parishioners try to see themselves in his stories? I'm quite certain they do.

Mom is due to arrive in 3 weeks. I'm going to try to renew both of these books so she can read them while she's here.
