Union County, NC had a wee bit of a problem with the architect of their new Judicial Center.
He bricked up some of the windows.
The article was in Wednesday's Observer.Apparently, they realized that, if someone looked into some of the windows, they'd see only the blank wall of a structural column. Thinking that wouldn't be too good, they elected to just brick the windows up. And they did it without consulting the County. They felt it wasn't necessary...said the fill-in brick (a few shades darker than the brick facade) was always an architectural option. They maintain that bricking up windows is a "common technique used to maintain the rhythm of the windows".
The County is making them pull the brick out and put in obscured glass.
I've actually noticed this "common technique" in one of the high-end subdivisions in our County. The houses there run from $400k to $700k. They don't use contrasting brick, but I've asked my piano teacher, who lives there, about those windows. The entire frame of the window is there. Just brick instead of glass. It looks like the homeowners ran out of money so they couldn't afford glass. She doesn't really know much about it. They weren't do that when she and her husband bought their house. These are the newer models that they've been putting up in the last year. Makes me glad I live in a more moderately priced subdivision.
I wish I had a picture to show you. Maybe I'll do that sometime this weekend.
We are adjusting around here a little bit. I still think every once in a while that I hear Soya's collar jingling. And last night I made pizza and kept looking around for her to give her pepperoni. We've never fed Soya from the table at all. And really almost never human food. But whenever I made pizza, Soya would get two pieces of pepperoni for each pizza I made. She would start hanging about whenever she saw me take the quarry tile out from the warming drawer and put it in the oven.
Today the youth of our church are doing another "Servant Evangelism" project. They are holding a free carwash in the church parking lot.
That's it for the day. Remember: Don't Buy Benchcraft Furniture!
