We took Taylor to the school last night to meet his teacher. He was delighted to see that he got the teacher he's been hoping for all summer. He also had a list of about 5 friends he was hoping would be in his class. One is, so he was very happy.

The school is really expanding this year, with 5 classrooms for each grade. They are using more of the mobile units that have been sitting outside unused in the past.  A friend of mine, who is retired from the school but substitutes, said they have about 120-130 kids per grade now. This is bigger than ever.

Nate has orientation this morning.  His buddy Ryan spent the night last night and I'll deliver them over to the school a little after 8. I met their Honors English teacher yesterday afternoon when I went over to leave a copy of my new driver's license (yes, I passed the the other portion with no errors yesterday).

The first thing I look for in a teacher is a whiner. If the teacher whines about being busy or having too many students, I know I'm in for a looonng year if I can't get my kid switched out. Switching out won't be an option in High School.  His English teacher was enthusiastic about meeting me and asked about Nate and his interests. Then she tried to recruit him for wrestling. She's not a wrestling coach but her son is in the sport and she's hoping there will be more lanky, skinny kids join up. Her son has worked all summer to gain 4 pounds so he can be in the 103 weight class, where there are more kids competing.  Unfortunately, wrestling is contact sport, so I told her Nate would probably never be in that.  He just can't stand contact.  We chatted for a few minutes and I told her I'd have to tell Nate and Ryan that I met her. She said "Don't tell them I'm nice! I try to really crack down for the first couple weeks before I let them know I'm actually pretty flexible and easy-going!"

So I went home and told the guys their new Honors English teacher is 4 feet tall, 4 feet wide and a real battleaxe.

I'll meet my bus this morning and drive my route. I've only driven a transit bus so far, and this one is smaller and has the engine in the front. So I've gained permission to practice on it.  Then Mom and I will do some shopping.

Gotta change the hummingbird feeder. It's drained dry and the girl bird is out there checking all the edges for any last drops that might be hanging on. It's kind of like licking your thumb to get the last fudge brownie crumbs.
