I don't know why it took me so long to read, because it is a pretty good book, but I finally finished reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt last weekend. Once again I am unable to tell you where I heard about it. The book was actually published in 2002. Maybe NPR?
Anyway, it's the story of a motley band of college greek students who, in an effort to experience some of the mysteries of ancient greek culture, end up committing a crime. And then another to keep it from getting out. It's good. Not a real quick read...but you can't just drop it after you start it. So it gets laid down and then you come back to it a day or so later.
This weekend Mom and I watched "Fatal Attraction". I'd never seen it before. But a few days before, I was clicking around the channels and found Glenn Close talking to Ellen DeGeneres on her show. Ellen was rhapsodizing about the movie so I requested it. It's got some pretty racy scenes in the beginning when the affair happens. After that it's just plain scary. One thing that really stuck with me was at the end, when Glenn Close's character is killed and Michael Douglas and Anne Archer say goodbye to the cops and are home alone again for the night. Aren't they a bit creeped out by the bloody bathroom to want to spend the night there? Where is the kid? Did she sleep through the whole thing?
Mom wanted to see "The Notebook" this weekend, so we went out to that. I'm not a Nicholas Sparks fan. Never have read any of his books. They are basically just a little too emotional and squooooshy. This movie was no exception. I didn't know going in that the movie involved Alzheimer's. If I had, I would have just refused to see it. Too close to home, that disease. If your sinuses are stopped up, go to this movie. By the end you'll have every faucet in your head running smoothly.
